ABC News reported that General Motors (GM) is recalling over 217,000 vehicles after it was found that some of the cars were missing bolts from their start-stop mechanisms. This may result in transmission oil leaking from the mechanism and causing the car to either stop moving or catch on fire.
Among the vehicles that GM is recalling are certain 2018-2020 models of the Chevrolet Equinox, the Chevrolet Transverse and the GMC Terrain; the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu; the 2018 and 2019 Chevrolet Cruze and Buick Lacrosse; the 2019-2020 Buick Encore and Buick Enclave; the 2019-2020 Cadillac XT4, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Blazer; and the 2020 Cadillac XT6.
According to GM, the company has not heard of any of these vehicles going on fire or being involved in an accident, and that there have been no reported injuries. Recalls are scheduled to take effect on December 14. In addition, the dealers will inspect the mechanisms of the recalled vehicles; if the bolts are found to be missing, they will be replaced.
If you have received a recall notice for your vehicle, you should bring it to the dealership immediately. If your vehicle is too old and beyond repair, it may not be worthwhile to bring it in.
