The Verge recently reported that Ring, the maker of video doorbells, is entering the automotive market with three products that can connect to the driver’s cell phone. Ring’s founder, Jamie Siminoff, said these products were developed in response to customers asking if the company could make an advanced security system for their cars like they did for their homes.
The Car Cam allows owners to receive alerts on their phones in the event of a break-in, it is being towed away or if it has been in an accident. They can then use their phones to view the incident through the camera feeds. If there is a serious accident, Car Cam will ping first responders to arrive at the scene. Its Traffic Stop feature allows drivers to record incidents when they are being pulled over and save the recordings in the cloud.
Like the Car Cam, the Car Alarm lets owners know if their vehicle is being broken into, if it is being towed away or if it has been involved in an accident. It can connect to other Alexa or Ring devices and will emit a siren to let the owner know of an incident. The Car Connect platform can connect the phone to the vehicle’s back-up cameras, alert owners of any events, view recorded footage and check if the vehicle is locked.
